Understanding Open Source
Defined by the Open Source Initiative as a development method for software that harnesses the power of distributed peer review and transparency process, Open Source is fast becoming one of the most closely watched phenomenon in the World Wide Web. And why not? It’s free – literally and figuratively – meaning it comes with no price tags, and more importantly no suffocating rules that prohibit you from fully maximizing its potential. As such, Open Source is regarded to have better quality, higher reliability, more flexibility, lower cost, and hopefully, an end to predatory vendor lock-in.
